Early this morning I took my dog on a walk and I came across this dead stick bush. I liked how it looked. I thought I saw a dragon head and neck in it. I took a photo and later printed it out, but couldn’t seem to draw a dragon onto it. But I did use my pencil to find and create another more unique fantasy creature!

Watercolor Portrait Painting Workshop
One of my favorite things to draw and paint is the human face. And I like to do it with lots of color and expressiveness. I am going to do a free 15 minute demonstration how I paint a portrait on July 28, 2018 in Lancaster. And right after that I will be conducting a 2 hour workshop walking participants through how to draw and paint a portrait. I hope to see some of you there!

Drawing Hands With Too Many Fingers…
Most people are always trying to figure out how to draw hands correctly. I decided instead to try drawing it all wrong with too many fingers and impossible positions. I looked at my own hand in different positions to draw this on my high school whiteboard. Maybe it could be some kind of monster’s hand!

My Submission To Spectrum 23: The Best In Contemporary Fantastic Art
Yesterday I sent in my one submission to Spectrum 23: The Best In Contemporary Fantastic Art. This is a challenging book to get in– I have sent in art almost every year for the past 20 years…. and only one image has ever made it into the book (back in 1999). This year I have submitted thisĀ “round robot” painting. I created it using charcoal, watercolor, acrylic paint, oil paint and at the end some adjustments using Photoshop. I will find out in April, 2016 if it gets into the book or not….
(Update: it did not make it into Spectrum… I will get to try again next year!)
